We recently visited Almeria with the intention of buying a property in the area. Before leaving we had contacted three estate agents who we arranged to meet during the first week of our stay. After meeting all three it became apparent that Pocomed Properties was the agent we felt most comfortable with and the one in which we felt we could place our trust.

We decided to look for somewhere to buy and eventually live in Spain around October last year.  By lucky happenstance we tripped over a site – pocomed.com, we filled in the query form and Carol phoned us shortly after.  I don’t think we were easy clients as we really weren’t sure exactly what we wanted.  However Carol spent the time and talked til she was blue in the face and she got to the bottom of what we were looking for.  As she said to Robin she considered he was looking for a piece of the Scottish Countryside in Spain, and that was going to be difficult.  She found it!  Exactly what he wanted, mountains, remote without being isolated, and space.  Once they found it for us, Tony and Carol went into top gear and helped with everything.  This is how to buy a house in Spain and feel quite safe.  Need a mortgage, they’ll help, need a lawyer they’ll help, can’t speak Spanish, they’ll help.  What a happy happenstance – Carol and Tony are GREAT (though there is one problem – they don’t drink so sharing a bottle of champagne on concluding the deal was not an option).  These guys are seriously professional, they know their job, but in addition I would like to think that once we finally move to Spain we have a few more friends to wave to on the street.  Thank you, all of you, for your help and patience, see you shortly.

We were the unfortunate victims of pressure sales in early 2005 by unscrupulous agents who offered the free visit, etc etc we have all heard about these companies and as much as we would like to name them we won't, and we lost E3000 into the bargain, which was not a lot in the grand scheme of things but no one likes to be taken for a ride, we thought we were wiser than that after reading magazines, watched TV programmes, looked on forums and chatted to people but obviously not.

We were recommended to Pocomed by someone on a forum, and because of our previous experience we were extremely sceptical, anyway we emailed Pocomed and spent approximately six months exchanging emails with all manner of questions.  As we were not looking for a holiday home or a rental property but looking to up sticks and leave England lock stock and barrel we had to trust the people we were dealing with.

Eventually in November 2005 we took the plunge and booked our flights, Pocomed organised the accommodation (very nice) and collected us from the Airport.  Steve (my husband) was determined not to put any deposits down no matter how much we fell in love with something, so Pocomed were not going to get a sale on this trip but this did not present a problem at all, in fact it may have even proved to Pocomed how serious we were about buying somewhere to live permanently.

We did find a lovely plot of land for building on which had the necessary permissions etc so we arranged to visit our solicitor (again recommended by someone on a forum) and got him to check everything out.  As it transpired the land did have permission for building on but there was a new regulation that came into force only a matter of months earlier (which our solicitor already knew about) regarding access for emergency vehicles etc to the house which would have been behind ours. 

Anyway the long and the short of it was the person selling to land said they would sort the problem out but our solicitor just said “walk away, it could take years to resolve the problem”, so of course we withdrew our interest having not spent a single Euro to either the land owner, Pocomed or our solicitor, now that was the turning point.

Pocomed were the company for us, we were not pressured, badgered or stalked and although bitterly disappointed about the land most importantly we had found people we could trust utterly with this massive life changing experience – Pocomed were going to hold our hand and help guide us, our trust was won and we were definitely the clients from hell, selling to people who had been duped before is an uphill struggle and Pocomed had Everest to climb with us.

After losing the land, we decided to go back to Spain in January for another scout around, and since being out there in November the cost of land had increased and we found ourselves in the predicament of overstretching our budget in buying land, and building a villa.  We sat down and frankly discussed this with Carol as now we had to change our view on buying either a resale or off plan. 

We looked at several resales and again felt that although there were some real beauties after modernising etc the budget would be stretched and we would be living in a building site – been there done that in England, never again.  

Eventually, after many viewings –  we found the place for us, poor Carol must have breathed a sigh of relief, the clients from hell were happy! 

But still smarting from the first rip off, we arranged to see our solicitor again and took a copy of the contract before we signed anything or parted with any money.  To cut this short so not to bore you everything was fine all licences were legal, plans approved etc etc and we felt happy to proceed with the purchase. 

Carol arranged all sorts of special things for us (if you want any more info on this then Pocomed will put you in touch with us, as we don’t want to put it out as general knowledge).

Our dream home was underway, Carol and Tony give us regular updates and sent pics of the progress on the house but most importantly just because we have signed on the dotted line Pocomed are still helping us with all sorts of things like jobs, transport, social life, you name it they help.  If we have any questions or need some info about anything we ask Pocomed and they have never let us down.  In fact to call Pocomed a selling agent does them an injustice, they a more like life coaches as I said before holding your hand and guiding you.

We could not praise them enough and of course thank the person who recommended them to us, because without Pocomed we would not be looking to leave England in August/September 2006 and move to Spain with our three sons, 20, 17 & 16.

The night sky is dark because the three brightest stars are all at Pocomed, thank god for genuine people like Carol and Tony who have become our friends through this experience and how many of you can say that about your selling agents !!!

Please accept our sincere apologises for not contacting you earlier, but
since we got back from Spain, things have been hectice, to say the least!.

We would like to thank both yourself and Tony, for everything you have done
for us over the last six months. We never anticipated back in June that we
would own a property by November. Your considertaion, thoughtfulness and
kindness sincerely helped us make the right choice. You put yourself out
to transport us to view properties that were situated over one and half hours
from your home, and you took the the time, not only to take myself and Ian,
but our children.

We had not fully decided that a property in Spain was what we wanted but we decided to research the issue. We started on the Internet and discovered the PocoMed website, the site offered a rounded and whole life approach to purchasing and owning a property rather than others more finance-only orientated approaches.

We’d done lots of research and decided that we were interested in buying a property on the Costa Almeria. Pocomed’s website was so informative that we chose to call them for help.

Two weeks later Martyn flew out and met Carol and Tony who showed him some of the properties on offer. He booked his own flight and car and felt that he was free to meet up with Pocomed whenever he wanted to, there was no pressure to spend the entire visit with them, something that he felt was quite important.

Martyn very quickly felt comfortable with their approach as there was no hard sell and they genuinely had our interests at heart. They gave him time to spend on his own to contemplate what he had seen and then when his decision was made were really helpful with sorting solicitor and a bank account.
