Sports

Golf

The region has a wealth of golf courses and has become a major lure for golfers from all over the world, for amateurs and professionals alike. Murcia and Almeria boasts some of the best golf courses in the Spain.

The courses, which benefit from the long hours of light and mild climate, are set in a tremendous variety of landscapes. You can choose to tee off in a desert landscape and enjoy the feeling of being in an oasis, or may prefer to hit a few balls in a marine ambience, in view of the Mediterranean Sea and unspoilt beaches.

 Scuba Diving

Diving is one of the most popular choices of water sports along the Mediterranean coast, especially on the beaches of Aguilas and the Costa Calidar.  The beauty and richness of the beaches, coupled to excellent year round weather, make them the ideal place for enjoying these activities to the full.

With its crystal clear water, the Costa Calida coast is famous for it's fabulous diving facilities and the variety of undersea wildlife. The seabed of sub-aquatic volcanic rocky beds shelter numerous species of crustaceans and exotic fish. There is a wealth of scuba diving schools along the coast that provide lessons, allowing amateurs and professionals alike to explore the rich protected marine life.

Skiing

Many people only associate Spain with sand and sun and are surprised to find that Spain also offers a wide range of winter sports. Spain's number one location for winter sports, the Sierra Nevada is located under two hours drive away from Aquilas and has regularly held World Cup skiing events. Located above Granada, it has the best snow and the longest season in the country. One can look forward to five months of snow.

Sierra Nevada has 61km of ski slopes with 45 pistes and 6 off-piste routes. There are 2 cable cars, 12 chair lifts and 5 ski lifts. The ski resort is open from 9am to 5pm although you can ski at night at weekends and bank holidays. Night skiing was introduced in 1994 with lighting along the El Rio slope (3km/545 vertical drop).

Everything you need can be hired on a daily basis and there is no shortage of schools that will assist everyone from beginners to experts.

Over recent years the resort has turned to technology to extend the season by investing one of Europe’s most advanced snowmaking systems, resulting in some of the best-groomed snow in Europe. Nowhere else in the world can you be playing golf in the sun then within such a short time, be skiing or snow-boarding at a top resort

Surf

Surfing is one of the regions'  hidden gems.
