Puerto Lumbreras – the port of lights – is located in the far west of the province of Murcia, on the N340 motorway between Murcia and Almeria.  It has a population of 10,600 inhabitants.  The area is largely agricultural, with olives and almonds being the main crop.  Puerto Lumbreras is also a cattle raising area.  The town is spread around the base of a hill, which is crowned by an old castle.  There are some good walks to be taken in the countryside around the town.

A market is held every in the town on Fridays.  There several hotel and restaurants in Puerto Lumbreras.

Puerto Lumbreras is 12 km from Lorca and 60km from Murcia.  Almeria airport is 105km, Alicante airport is 135km and Murcia airport is 85km.
